Chapter 900: Prior Art, Classification, Search

This chapter gives a basic overview for patent examiners on how to conduct a prior art search. Since this chapter is primarily meant for patent examiners, it is not often tested on the patent bar exam. The prior art section discusses some questionable reference types and whether or not they are considered prior art. The reference types outlined here include; matter cancelled in an application, copending abandoned applications and foreign patents.
This section is not tested to much extent on the exam because it is primarily useful to examiners and not the licensed patent practitioner. You may see a question or two dealing with section 901 from this chapter.
